Mirage™ Dissolvable Frac Plug, a novel temporary zonal isolation tool utilized in hydraulic fracturing and re-completion operations in horizontal wells, is a cutting-edge design with a patent granted to meet specific downhole requirements.

 

Working principles

 

Material

● Constructed of 100% dissolvable material, The Mirage™ Dissolvable Frac Plug assures both exceptional isolation performance and reliable dissolution in both traditional brine and even freshwater environments, for both high and low-temperature well.

● It mainly comprises two parts: a fully soluble metal material and a fully soluble short glue barrel. It can be tailored to meet specific geological conditions and construction requirements based on the customer's actual conditions.

● Metal Material: it is made of high-strength magnesium-aluminum alloys or high-polymer materials

Dissolvable Frac Plug-4

The dissolution rate of magnesium-aluminum alloys is primarily related to the liquid temperature and Cl- concentration. Higher temperatures and higher concentrations of Cl- result lead to faster dissolution rates due to the faster breakdown of the passivation film on the alloy surface and an increase in liquid conductivity.

The sealing elements of Dissolvable Frac Plugs are comprised of high-polymer materials, available in various forms such as single rubber sleeves or composites of rubber and resin. They are often made of thermoplastic elastomer blends, which dissolve into a paste-like or granular state for easy removal.

After the construction is completed, there is no need for drilling and grinding, and it can be completely dissolved in a low-concentration KCL solution or clean water medium to realize a full-diameter wellbore. fully dissolvable in a short period, with no milling to remove plug, saving rig time and cost.It is the optimal choice for modernizing oil and gas wells to increase production and efficiency.

● The anchoring mechanism employs a bidirectional slip design, ensuring stable locking force during setting and reliable anchoring force during fracturing operations. In case of abnormal situations such as sand plugging, the design features a well-kick and blowout prevention system.

● The shear release mechanism uses a shearable shear ring made of soluble magnesium-based alloy, which is safer and more reliable than traditional shear pin designs and avoids leaving non-soluble residues in the well.

● The plug's top and bottom ends feature interlocking designs to allow for contingency drilling and milling operations in case of emergencies.

Application

 

Pressure and Sealing Performance

To verify the high-temperature pressure and sealing performance of Dissolvable Frac Plugs, the casing test fixture was placed in a high-temperature test apparatus and heated to 93°C. Once the temperature stabilized, the pressure was gradually increased to 70 MPa and held for 24 hours, followed by a 15-minute pressurized period. No significant pressure drop was observed, indicating that the pressure and sealing performance of the bridge plug met the requirements for field fracturing operations.

Working Life

According to the current models of shale gas operations, the working life of dissolvable bridge plugs is 24 hours, which is sufficient for meeting the field operations requirements for shale gas wells. To put it simply, from the moment the soluble bridge plug is deployed, fracturing operations can be carried out within 24 hours. Any performance testing for soluble bridge plugs can be conducted based on the 24-hour working life.
