◆Materials and processes of oil well sucker rod pump parts:

① Pump barrel

Hardening method for oil pump barrel: chrome plating, carburizing

Basic materials of chrome-plated pump barrel: 45 #steel, 4/6 chromium steel, navy brass, etc.

Basic material of carburizing pump barrel: 20#steel

Maximum length of pump barrel: 10.5m

Chromium plating hardness: HRC67-71

Carburizing hardness: HRC58-66

② Plunger

Plunger hardening method: alloy powder spray welding, chrome plating

Hardness of spray welding layer: ≥HRC58

Chromium plating hardness: HRC67-71

Plungers of various lengths can be manufactured according to user requirements, with a maximum length of 10m

①Type of pump:

Letter T: Pipe pump code;

Letter R: Rod pump code;

②Pump barrel type:

Letter H: thick-walled pump barrel (for metal plungers);

Letter W: Thin-walled pump barrel (for metal plunger);

Letter S: Thin-walled pump barrel (used for soft sealing plunger);

Letter P: Thick wall pump barrel (used for soft sealing plunger);

③Support assembly location:

Letter A: Top;

Letter B: bottom;

Letter T: bottom, movable cylinder type;

④Support assembly type:

Letter C: leather bowl style;

Letter M: Mechanical type;

The numbers after the letters are: pump barrel length, plunger length, and total length of extension collar/nipple.

Note: The fixed valve of pipe pumps commonly used in China is connected to the pump barrel. There is no support code in the code name. Generally, long and short sections are not required.

Hardening Methods

There are two hardening methods for oil well sucker rod pump barrels: chromium plating and carbonitriding

Chromium plating hardness HRC67 -71(national standard)(API is HV100900 -1160=HRC66.5-73), the minimum thickness of the coating is 0.076mm; 45 steel is used, the maximum length is 10.5 meters; it has high hardness, wear resistance, dense coating, corrosion resistance, and long service life. It is a commonly used pump barrel hardening method at home and abroad.

The hardness of carbonitriding is ≥ HRC58 (the minimum hardness of HRC58 at 0.13mm away from the surface of the inner hole is specified in the specification), and the thickness of the carburized layer is 0.75- 1.15mm; 20 steel is used with a maximum length of 7.8 meters; it has good corrosion resistance and is suitable for working conditions with low requirements for pump barrel wear, such as heavy oil.

There are five types of pump barrel wall thicknesses: 3.175, 4.76 mm, 6.35 mm (regular), 8mm (thickened), and 10mm (thickened). With the need for export products, domestic companies will also produce pump cylinders with wall thicknesses of 3.175 and 4.76 mm, and pump cylinders with inner holes that are not hardened (not processed).

The specifications stipulate the treatment methods of pump barrels: chromium plating, carburizing, carbonitriding, nickel phosphorus electroless plating, nitriding, induction hardening; pump barrel materials: carbon steel, chromium steel, low alloy steel, brass, Monel alloy.
