Tubing head Installation Procedure

Oct 01, 2024

① Pre-Installation Inspection

Prior to hoisting, thoroughly inspect the lower flange specifications and sealing surfaces of the tubing head to ensure compatibility with the casing head. Check for any damage to the sealing components and surfaces. If any issues are found, take immediate corrective action.

②Casing Hanger Preparation

Clean the sealing surface of the casing hanger (or casing) thoroughly and apply grease. Remove any burrs by grinding and polishing. If the sealing surface is on the casing itself, bevel the edge and smooth it to a polished finish.

③Sealant Application

Fill the annular space between the casing hanger (or casing) and the casing cross with EM08 sealant. Place a clean, undamaged sealing gasket on the casing head.

Tubing head Positioning

Hoist the tubing head into position above the casing head, paying close attention to proper alignment. Secure it symmetrically using bolts and nuts.

⑤BT Seal Pressure Test

After installing, conduct a pressure test on the casing hanger BT seal. To activate the lower flange seal (BT seal) , inject sealant and perform a pressure test as follows:

- Remove the pressure cap and plug from one grease valve and the plug from the opposite side (180° apart).

- Connect a grease gun filled with 7903 sealant to the grease valve fitting.

- Inject sealant until it emerges from the opposite hole.

- Replace the removed plug and continue injecting sealant until reaching 15-30 MPa.

- Disconnect the grease gun and replace the plug and pressure cap.

- Repeat this process for the second BT seal ring.

- For the remaining grease valve (180° from the test valve), inject sealant using the grease gun.

- Remove the pressure cap and plug from the test valve and connect a pressure test pump.

- Conduct a pressure test on the external BT seal of the hanger:

- Test pressure: 80% of the flange's rated working pressure or the casing's collapse strength (whichever is lower).

- Hold pressure for 10 minutes.

- The test is successful if no leakage is observed.

⑥Annular Space Pressure Test

After successfully testing the external BT seal, perform a pressure test on the annular space formed by the casing hanger, tubing head body, casing head body, and BX seal ring:

- Remove the pressure cap and plug from the test valve and connect a pressure test pump.

- Apply test pressure to the hanger's annular space.

- Test pressure: 80% of the flange's rated working pressure or the casing's collapse strength (whichever is lower).

- Hold pressure for 10 minutes.

- The test is successful if no leakage is detected.
