Vigor Downhole Electrical Cutting Tool (VECT)
Vigor Downhole Electrical Cutting Tool (VECT) is a specialized device designed for internal cutting operations within downhole pipes, such as tubing or casing. It can perform cutting tasks at any location except for casing collars, with high efficiency and time saving benefits.
Vigor Downhole Electrical Cutting Tool (VECT) is powered by a brushless DC motor inside the tool, which drives a hydraulic pump to provide power for anchoring and cutting. The cutting head is directly driven by another motor, ensuring precise, safe, and reliable cutting operations.
Description
Vigor Downhole Electrical Cutting Tool (VECT) cuts oilfield tubulars with precision control leaving a machine shop quality finish.
The remaining pipe can easily be fished using industry standard techniques, removing the need for subsequent cleanup operations.
The depth of penetration is accurately controlled, preventing damage to external casing strings, and enabling packer retrieval operations to be undertaken.
The VECT can be deployed on mono-conductor wireline, and depth correlation is achieved with an analogue casing collar locator (CCL), or by incorporating a no-go device into the toolstring.You control the tool operation with a laptop and control panel at the surface.
When the tool is positioned on-depth, anchors are set and the cutting operation is initiated. The rotating cutting head is located at the bottom of the tool. During the operation, cutting speed, cut penetration, and downhole microphone response are monitored in real time, and provide a clear indication of a successful cut.

Vigor Downhole Electrical Cutting Tool (VECT) components
It consists of the surface monitoring system, surface power supply, surface data acquisition module, and control & operation panel. Surface Monitoring System It provides real-time monitoring of key parameters of the downhole electric cutting tool, including: Cable head voltage and current, Wireline tension, Casing Collar Locator (CCL) signal, Anchoring force, Cutting speed, Cutting noise.
Surface Power Supply It delivers 0–500 V DC, 5 A power to the downhole tool string.
Downhole data is decoded by the surface data acquisition system and transmitted to the host computer . Simultaneously, control instructions are sent from the host computer to the console, then downlinked to the downhole tool .

Hydraulic Balance Sub: Ensures the tool can withstand a pressure of 100MPa
Setting Sub: Secures Mechanical Anchoring Ⅰ and Mechanical Anchoring Ⅱ to the pipe to be cut
Drive Sub: Composed of components such as a motor and a reducer; controls cutting and blade extension

Vigor Downhole Electrical Cutting Tool (VECT) is designed with multiple safety anti-jamming systems
1.Blade jamming during cutting Solution:
The blade is designed with a safety weak point. Simply pull up the tool to automatically shear off and release the blade.
2.Downhole tool power failure during cutting (the tool remains anchored to the pipe) Solution:
The tool is equipped with a dual pure mechanical anchoring anti-jamming system. In case of this problem, directly pull up the tool to automatically release the anchoring (the pull-up anchoring release force can be set to 200–800kg according to the wireline).

Field Construction
On November 17, 2019, at Well XX in XX Oilfield, the cut pipe string was pulled out. The cut surface was flat, and the cutting operation was completed. See the on-site application photos.
Electric Cutting of Well XX-X in XX Gas Storage On May 15, 2025, an electric cutting tool was adopted to complete the cutting of the packer mandrel, unset the packer, and realize the pulling out of the original production string. This has created conditions for running the new completion string.
