Description

Vigor Drilling API 5CT Casing/OCTG Casing is inserted into a good bore and cemented in place to protect both subsurface formations and the wellbore from collapsing and to allow drilling fluid to circulate and extraction to take place.

 

Functions

 

It is a steel pipe that supports the walls of oil and gas wells. Each well uses several layers of Casing based on different drilling depths and geological conditions. The cement must be used to cement after it is lowered into the well. Unlike oil pipes and drill pipes, it cannot be reused and is a one-time consumable material. Therefore, its consumption accounts for more than 70% of all oil well pipes.

 

Casing Types

① Guide Bush: Mainly used in offshore and desert drilling to isolate seawater and sand, ensuring smooth drilling operations. Common sizes are 30" x 1.0", 30" x 0.75".

② Surface Casing for oil and gas: Used for initial spudding through shallow, unconsolidated formations down to bedrock. It isolates these zones to prevent caving. Common sizes are 20", 16", 13-3/8", 10-3/4", 9-5/8". Setting depth depends on the shallow formation depth, typically 80-1500m. Lower grades like K55 or N80 are commonly used due to limited load requirements.

③ Intermediate Casing for oil and gas: Run to case off troublesome formations like collapsed zones, oil/gas/water zones, lost circulation zones, salt sections, etc. during the drilling process. Deep or complex wells may require multiple intermediate strings with stringent mechanical properties and sealing requirements, using higher grades like N80, and P110. Some deep wells even use non-API grades higher than Q125 like V150. Common sizes are 13-3/8", 10-3/4", 9-5/8", 8-5/8", 7-5/8", 7".

④ Production OCTG oil string: The final oil string is set across the reservoir (oil/gas) zone and isolates all exposed formations above. The production zone is located inside. it is set at the maximum depth with the most stringent requirements for mechanical properties and sealing integrity. Grades like K55, N80, P110, Q125, V150 are used. Common sizes are 7", 6-5/8", 5-1/2", 5", 4-1/2".

API Casing Thread

 

Short Round (STC), Long Round (LTC), Buttress (BTC), Extreme Line (XL). Non-API proprietary threads also exist.

Round threads have a 1:16 taper and 8 threads/In. Buttress threads use 1:16 taper for <16" O.D. and 1:12 for ≥16" OD, with 5 threads/In.

Grade

Casing-3

ASTM grades are designated based on minimum yield strength e.g. H40, J55, K55, N80, N80Q, L80, C90, C95, T95, P110, Q125, SS95, SS110, 9%CR, 13%CR, etc, Special for L80 13Cr OCTG product is a grade 80ksi martensitic stainless steel described in API 5CT and ISO 11960 (tubular in carbon and low alloy steels). The alloy is widely used in tubular form for /OCTG Casing and tubing in standard and CO2 environments. pH, chlorides, temperature, and H2S can limit its use in other environments. ISO 15156-3 limits the hardness to 22 HRC max for sour service. The alloy is almost similar to the AISI 420 modified.

Grade selection depends on well conditions and depth. Corrosive environments require corrosion-resistant grades. Complex areas may need high-impact performance from seamless API Casing.
