Tubing

For the manufacture of Tubing /OCTG pipe, except for the "upsetting" process of thickening the wall of pipes, the manufacturing of OCTG pipes and casing pipes are identical.

First, green steel tubes are threaded on each end. The threading is then inspected and, if necessary, rethreaded to ensure that the thread accurately connects to its coupling.

They are strengthened by surface treatment and are subject to various inspections, including drifting and hydrostatic tests before they are coated and packaged into them.

 

Its grades include: H40, J55, K55, N80,N80Q, L80, C90, C95, T95, P110, Q125,SS95,SS110, 9%CR, 13%CR.

(1)N80 is divided into N80-1 and N80Q with the same tensile properties but different delivery conditions and impact toughness. N80-1 is supplied as hot rolled or can substitute normalizing with controlled cooling if the final rolling temperature exceeds Ar3, with no impact or NDE requirements. N80Q must be quenched and tempered with specified Charpy impact and NDE.

(2)L80 includes L80-1, L80-9Cr, and L80-13Cr with identical mechanical properties and delivery conditions but different corrosion resistance, production difficulty, and pricing. L80-1 is conventional, while L80-9Cr and L80-13Cr offer higher corrosion resistance for severe environments at a higher cost, Special for L80 13Cr is a grade 80ksi martensitic stainless steel described in API 5CT and ISO 11960 (tubular in carbon and low alloy steels). The alloy is widely used in tubular form for casing and Tubing for oil and gas in standard and CO2 environments. pH, chlorides, temperature, and H2S can limit its use in other environments. ISO 15156-3 limits the hardness to 22 HRC max for sour service. The alloy is almost similar to the AISI 420 modified.

(3)C90 and T95 each have Grade 1 and Grade 2 (C90-1, C90-2, T95-1, T95-2).

NUE (Non-upset End), also can be called 10Rd, cut directly on the pipe ends with couplings;

EUE (External-upset-end), can be called 8Rd, its thickened ends where threads are cut and couplings attached;

IJ (Integral-joint) type, one end is externally upset for a pin thread and the other end is internally upset for a box thread, allowing direct connection without couplings.

Functions

 

(1)Oil/gas production: After drilling and casing, it is run inside the casing to produce oil/gas to the surface.

(2)Water injection: When reservoir pressure is insufficient, water can be injected down.

(3)Steam injection: For thermal recovery of heavy oil, insulated product transports steam downhole.

(4)Acidizing and fracturing: Toward the end of well life or to improve production, acids, fracturing fluids, and proppants are pumped.
