Tornado™ Roller Reamer

Vigor's Tornado™ Roller Reamer is an efficient bottom-hole assembly reaming and torque-reducing tool. It provides reaming action for improving borehole shape size, and quality. It also provides stabilization action by centralizing the BHA, minimizing down-hole vibrations, preventing the BHA from resting on the low side of the deviated hole, and minimizing BHA fatigue. Torque reduction results from touching the formation with a set of rollers spinning around their axes as a result of the rotation of the central body.
(1) It consists of a body, cutters which are expanded and retracted using hydraulic pressure controlled from the surface, a bearing pin, upper block, lower block, secondary lock block, saver washer, cross pin, washer, and lock bolt. Our product body is made of high-quality alloy steel and heated up to the Brinell hardness 285~341, and the minimum impact strength is up to 54 J. The ultrasonic sound flaw detection is made at the overall length of the body. The thread is phosphate, greased, and equipped with a thread protector as per API specification.

1. What is the structure and principle of a Roller Reamer?
Its body is connected to the drill pipe by a threaded connection and uses drilling fluid to cool and lubricate the roller cutters. The roller knives are mounted on bearings that allow them to spin freely as they come into contact with the hole wall. Its body is made of high-quality alloy steel. After heat treatment, Brinell Hardness is 285-341, impact energy is 54J. Threads are cold rolled, phosphate, and protected with Thread protectors which comply with API Specification. Ultrasonic inspection is carried out on each part of the whole body, Heat treated and machined with precise dimensional control. Its parts are inspected in the pre- and post-manufacturing process phases and checked again for conformance to interchangeability needs and requirements. An improved combination of rollers and pressure blocks allows cutters to be easily replaced with an enhanced lubricant.
2. What are the types of cutters?
Three types of cutters are available:
- Type T: Narrow tooth is machined and surface hardened, which is used for the cutting of hole wall, used for soft formation.
- Type F: Wide flat tooth is machined and surface hardened, which is used for the cutting and crushing of hole wall, used for medium hard formation.
- Type B: The roller is cold inserted with tungsten carbide string and used for hard, abrasive formation.
