Nate Casing-Friendly Hardbanding User Instruction

◆Wire storage

The wire can be stored for 6 months in dry environment in package.

A spool of wire should be used within one week after unpacking.

◆Pre-weld prep

The area to be hard banded should be clear of any grease, rust, moist or other contaminants.

The both pipe ends should be plugged before hard banding. It is especially important with mobile facility in cold and/or windy weather.

◆Pre-weld heat up

The heat up area should be broader and temperature uniform. The specific temperature and time can be decided in respect of ambient temperature and drill pipe size.

If not in cold and/or windy weather, Nate 101J and Nate 202J, Nate 505J do not require pre-heating.

◆Welding process

Gas shielding is required for the welding,Nate has learned from experience that either a Pure 100% Carbon Dioxide and Argon ,or a mixture of Argon and Carbon Dioxide gases can be utilized when welding. The specified Argon/CO2 gas mixtures are 80%Ar/20%CO2 or 75%Ar/25%CO2.

Nate 101J and Nate 202J, Nate 505J can also be self-shielded, it is convenient for fieldwork.

Welding variables are recommended as in the table below. Users of the wire are encouraged to conduct trial welding and adjust accordingly.

◆Post weld cooling

After welding, the tool joints need to be wrapped immediately in thermally insulated blankets or canisters. The blankets or canisters shall remain on the tool joint ends until the tool joint has cooled down to less than 66°C.

If not in cold and/or windy weather, Nate 101J and Nate 202J, Nate 505J do not require slow-cooling. Nate 7000W may preheat, but not slowly cool.

Welding process

◆Hard band finish

After the tool joints have cooled down to ambient temperature, weld slag and spatter should be cleared, band ground so that a of uniform thickness, smooth, continuous hard band profile is attained.

◆Hard banding inspection

The preferred hard banding profile should be of uniform thickness or slightly convex,over whole hard banding.

Each weld bead should overlap the previous weld bead, but too much overlap is not welcome. The final band should be smooth and continuous.
