Standard rubber materials (e.g., natural rubber or basic NBR) degrade rapidly under high temperatures-becoming stiff and brittle, which leads to seal failure. Under high pressure, these materials can also extrude into metal gaps, causing permanent damage and loss of sealing function. HNBR

HNBR is made via selective hydrogenation of the NBR butadiene groups, which improves the temperature and ozone resistance considerably. HNBR is widely known for its physical strength and retention of properties after long-term exposure to heat, oil, and chemicals. HNBR has better heat resistance, oxidation resistance, tensile strength, and abrasion resistance than standard nitrile (NBR).

FKM

Fluoro rubber can be used from −25 °C to 200 °C and is predominantly used for seals in the automotive and commercial vehicle industry and in petroleum production, along with the chemical and aerospace sectors. Special types of FKM are even flexible at −40 °C. In the general industry, FKM is used wherever there are high rotational speeds and high temperatures, for example, in radial shaft seal rings in pumps and transmissions.

FFKM

FFKM offers the highest temperature resistance available for rubber materials. Particularly, its combination of excellent high temperature and chemical resistance positions FFKM solely on the top of the elastomer world.

Compounds of Viton rubber remain substantially elastic when exposed to laboratory air oven ageing up to 204°C or to intermittent exposures up to 316°C.
