The flow coupling is a thickened pipe, its inner diameter is the same as the inner diameter of the oil pipe, but its outer diameter is slightly larger, the O.D. of the heavy wall pipe is the same as the tubing coupling diameter. it is typically located just above and below flow control equipment where turbulent flow problems are likely to occur, such as small-diameter nipple profiles, expansion joints, safety valves, gauges, and gas lift mandrels. It is used in high-yield oil and gas wells, and oil wells with average output can choose to use it or not. When the high-yield oil and gas flow flows through the safety valve, it will have a throttling effect due to diameter reduction, causing eddy current erosion and wear at its upper and lower ends.
Working Principle
Flow coupling works by reducing turbulence and erosion caused by the flow of fluids through restricted areas. The couplings feature a thicker wall and internal beveled transitions that create a smoother flow path, minimizing the formation of turbulent eddies and vortices that can lead to accelerated wear and erosion of the tubing and completion equipment.

Material
It is made from high-quality alloy steel to ensure maximum abrasion resistance and strength.
The material grade also could be AISI 4130/4140 to meet API Grades -J55, K55, N80, L80, C90, T95, P110, also available in 9Cr 80,13Cr 80/85,13Cr95, Super 13 Cr95, standard as per API 5CT.
In H2S service, the hardness is available to be heat-treated to between 18 and 22 HRC as per NACE MR-0175.
Threads are available in API tubing connections.
Most tubing connections can be supplied, however, I.D./O.D. dimensions may vary depending on the tubing connection and tubing weight.
