Main Components of BOP Control Unit

 

  • Remote console

The remote control console consists of a fuel tank, pump set, accumulator set, manifold, various valve components, instruments and electronic control boxes. The main function of the remote control console is to generate high-pressure control fluid from the pump bank and store it in the accumulator bank. When it is necessary to open and close the BOP, the high-pressure control fluid from the accumulator is distributed to each control object (BOP) through the three-position four-way rotary valve of the manifold.

 

  • Driller's console, auxiliary driller's console

The driller's control console is usually installed on the rig floor, allowing the driller to easily remotely control the BOP.

 

  • Air pipe cable

The air umbilical connects the air path between the remote control console and the driller's control console. The gas pipe cable consists of a sheath and multiple tube cores. Connecting flanges are installed at both ends, which are connected to the remote console and the driller console respectively.

 

  • Hydraulic pipelines (including pipelines such as hose lines or pipe bent)

Generally, the distance between the remote control console and the wellhead BOP stack is 40 meters, and a set of hydraulic lines is needed to connect them. The connection methods include hard line connection and hose line connection.

Hard pipelines include pipe bent, movable pipelines, etc. Using hard pipeline connections has the advantages of safety and reliability, but the disadvantage is that installation and layout are inconvenient. The connection of hose lines has the advantages of simplicity and convenience, but attention should be paid to its safety during use.

 

Testing of BOP Control Unit

 

  • Hydraulic power unit (HPU) testing

Test hydraulic pumps, motors, accumulators, filters and other necessary hydraulic components to ensure they provide sufficient pressure and flow to operate the BOP system.

 

  • Control valve and pipeline testing

Ensure that the control valve and pipeline can correctly control the flow of hydraulic oil to different components of the BOP, including regulating the opening and closing of valves and pipelines.

 

  • Control system and communication equipment testing

Check the signal processing capabilities of the control system, including control panels, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and communication equipment, to ensure that they can monitor and control the operation of the BOP stack in real time.
